About the American Landmarks Series:
The American Landmarks Series, which includes Priority and Express Mail stamps, began in 2008 with stamps depicting Mount Rushmore ($4.80, US #4268) and the Hoover Dam ($16.50, US #4269). Since then, nearly every year has seen the release of two new stamps showcasing vibrant images of iconic American locations. Each stamp in the series, designed by Dan Cosgrove, forms part of a "virtual tour" of America's most remarkable landmarks.

History the stamp represents:
Monument Valley, situated on the border of Utah and Arizona, is synonymous with the dramatic landscapes of the American West often featured in Hollywood films. Its massive sandstone buttes and striking red sands were formed over millions of years through wind erosion.

The area's signature red hues come from iron oxide in the surrounding siltstone and sandstone. Notable landmarks include the Mitten and Merrick Buttes, which are among the most recognized features of the region.

Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park draws thousands of visitors annually. Operated by the Navajo Nation, the park offers guided tours, gift shops, and Navajo handcrafts. Visitors are encouraged to bring water and sun protection to cope with the harsh desert environment.

Monument Valley??s stark beauty and timeless allure continue to inspire photographers, artists, and travelers from across the globe. Its vast, open spaces and towering formations remain a quintessential symbol of the American West.
