North American Soccer Forever Stamp 2026

The U.S. Postal Service celebrates the growing passion for soccer in America with a commemorative stamp honoring the excitement surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup. As the sport continues to gain popularity across the nation, millions of fans and players are preparing for one of the world's most anticipated sporting events.

Soccer has developed a particularly strong following among younger generations in the United States. Millions of children participate in youth leagues, and more than 800,000 students compete at the high school level. With enthusiasm continuing to rise, the 2026 FIFA World Cup represents a major opportunity to further expand the sport's presence and influence throughout the country.

The 2026 tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The competition begins in Mexico on June 11 and concludes with the championship match in New Jersey on July 19. The United States will welcome teams and fans from around the world for 78 matches held across 11 host locations: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York New Jersey, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Seattle.

USPS art director Antonio Alcal brought personal experience and enthusiasm for the sport to the stamp project. Having watched his daughter play soccer from childhood through college, Alcal remains an active fan and continues to attend professional matches, including games featuring DC United and Washington Spirit. He previously designed the 2023 Women's Soccer stamp.

Developing the final stamp design involved extensive research and exploration. Alcal reviewed soccer stamps issued around the world, identifying common visual approaches before studying available photography to determine which images would best capture the energy and emotion of the game. He ultimately chose the dynamic moment of a player striking the ball in mid-air an image that conveys athleticism, movement, and excitement.

Soccer's emotional power is reflected in one of the sport's most recognizable celebrations: the extended goal call. Originating with announcers in Latin America and later made famous worldwide by broadcaster Andr's Cantor during the 1990 FIFA World Cup, the call has become a universal expression of excitement, heard everywhere from neighborhood fields to the final match of the World Cup.

For many athletes, competing in the FIFA World Cup represents the highest achievement of their careers. As the United States prepares to host this global event, the tournament is expected to inspire new fans, encourage participation, and contribute to the continued growth of soccer across the nation.
