Love Series : Hearts Blossom Forever Stamp 2019
Purpose of the Stamp
This stamp was issued to be used on mail sent to loved ones, continuing the popular Love series by the USPS.
Design Details
The stamp features the word "love" in cursive script beneath twelve hearts in shades of red, purple, orange, and pink. The color palette was chosen to evoke "happy, positive feelings." The design is the work of Antonio Alcal??.
First Day of Issue
The First Day of Issue Ceremony took place at the Puerto Rico Museum of Contemporary Art in San Juan, Puerto Rico, a notable choice as few U.S. stamps have had their First Days of Issue in Puerto Rico.
The Love Series
The USPS introduced its first Love stamp in 1973, inspired by the success of Christmas stamps. Initially, there was no intention to create a series, and it wasn??t until 1982 that a second Love stamp was released. These stamps, featuring romantic themes, were sporadically issued over the next few years. The USPS clarified that Love stamps were not just for Valentine??s Day but also suitable for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions.
In 1987, the USPS officially designated it as a series, with new Love stamps being released nearly every year since. Love stamps typically remain on sale longer than other commemorative stamps and are printed in larger quantities. If demand is high, additional printings are sometimes ordered.
Historical and Cultural Significance
Love is widely regarded as one of the most powerful emotions. It encompasses romantic, platonic, familial, and other forms of affection. The experience of love significantly influences how we live and perceive the world. Studies have shown that people in happy relationships??whether marriages, friendships, or close family bonds??experience numerous long-term physical benefits.
Research indicates that love can lead to fewer colds, reduced pain, faster healing, lower blood pressure, and decreased anxiety. These benefits contribute to reduced stress, longer lifespans, and increased overall happiness.
In an era where technology often dominates communication, the dynamics of falling in love are evolving. Despite these changes, the act of falling in love remains timeless and continues to have remarkable positive effects on human health. Researchers believe that even more benefits of love are yet to be discovered. Indeed, love is ??a many-splendored thing!??
