Allen Toussaint Black Heritage Forever Stamp
The U.S. Postal Service honors legendary New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint with the 48th stamp in the Black Heritage series. A pianist, songwriter, and producer, Toussaint helped define the New Orleans sound with classics like Fortune Teller,Southern Nights, and All These Things.
Known for his quiet brilliance and behind-the-scenes work, Toussaint influenced generations of artists across soul, R&B, funk, and pop. His career spanned nearly six decades, earning him honors including the National Medal of Arts, and inductions into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame.
The stamp features a 2007 photograph of Toussaint at the piano, smiling and lit in purple hues against a dark background. Designed by Ethel Kessler with photography by Bill Tompkins, the stamp is issued in panes of 20.
