Sixteen stamps were issued to mark the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street, the beloved children's television show.

Purpose of the Stamps:

The stamps were created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Sesame Street, a show that has delighted and educated children since its debut.

Stamp Designs:

Each stamp features a different Sesame Street character, including Big Bird, Ernie, Bert, Cookie Monster, Rosita, The Count, Oscar the Grouch, Abby Cadabby, Herry Monster, Julia, Guy Smiley, Snuffleupagus, Elmo, Telly, Grover, and Zoe. Art director Derry Noyes designed the stamps using photographs of these iconic characters.

First Day of Issue Ceremony:

The ceremony took place in Lafayette Park, Detroit, Michigan, as part of the ??Sesame Street Road Trip,?? a celebration held in 10 cities across the US.

Historical Significance:

In 2019, Sesame Street celebrated its 50th anniversary. To honor this milestone, the USPS issued 16 Forever stamps, each featuring a beloved character from the show.

The diverse cast of Sesame Street characters, from long-time residents like Big Bird and Snuffleupagus to newer additions like Abby Cadabby and Julia, each contribute to the show??s vibrant neighborhood. These characters play, learn, and tackle challenges together, always supporting one another.

Sesame Street represents a place of joy and inclusivity where everyone is encouraged to be themselves and find friendship and fun. The question "how do you get to Sesame Street" signifies that Sesame Street is not just a physical location but a state of community and harmony that can exist anywhere. As Phil Donahue once said, ??This is Sesame Street. A place where people, birds, and monsters all live together in perfect harmony.??
