Christmas Magi Forver Stamp 2014

$37.99 – $500.00

Only one of the four Gospels mentions the Magi, or wise men, who visited the infant Jesus in Bethlehem, but it remains one of the most well-known stories in the Bible. The Gospel of Matthew describes visitors "from the east" following a rising star in search of a child prophesied to be the son of God. They find Jesus in Bethlehem and offer him the three famous gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
At that time, all three items were of great value. Gold, a precious metal, symbolized wealth and status. Frankincense, a perfume, had medicinal uses, such as relief from arthritis. Myrrh, used as anointing oil or embalming fluid, also served as an effective salve.
More importantly, each gift carries spiritual significance: Gold represents Jesus' divinity and kingship on Earth, frankincense symbolizes his holiness, and myrrh foreshadows his eventual suffering and death.
The legend of these meaningful gifts and the Magi who brought them has become an essential part of the Christmas story. It was the wise men??s generosity that established the holiday gift-giving tradition, now celebrated by millions each December in Western Christianity.
