A Flag for All Seasons Forever Stamp 2013

In perpetual tribute to the fallen heroes interred in the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, whose identities remain shrouded in mystery but whose sacrifices echo through the hearts of every American, a solemn vigil has persisted since July 2, 1937. Standing as guardians of honor, the perpetual guard, drawn from the ranks of the Army??s 3rd Infantry Regiment, and the unfurling United States flag serve as unwavering sentinels, irrespective of the passage of time or the caprices of weather.

The guards uphold a rigorous ritual, marching with precision along a black mat adjacent to the tomb, executing precise turns to face east and north before retracing their steps. With each maneuver, they signal their readiness to defend with the solemn ??shoulder-arms?? movement. Changing guard every 30 to 120 minutes, regardless of seasonal vicissitudes, they adhere steadfastly to the Sentinel??s Creed, pledging unyielding reverence and diligence amidst the elements.

Amidst blizzards, hurricanes, or the tranquility of a summer night, the guards and the fluttering U.S. flag stand sentinel, preserving the memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, ensuring their valor remains etched in the annals of a grateful nation.

Design Details:

Crafted by Laura Stutzman of Maryland, the Flag for All Seasons stamps feature patriotic gouache illustrations, capturing the U.S. flag from a unique perspective, enveloped by the ever-changing hues of the sky and foliage, each emblematic of the passing seasons.

Historical Context:

While the U.S. flag had been featured as a secondary motif in numerous stamp designs, it wasn't until 1957 (U.S. #1094) that it took center stage. Since the 1980s, stamps featuring the American flag have become a recurrent theme, depicting diverse scenes and settings, commemorating the enduring symbol of liberty and unity.
