Kwanzaa Forever Stamp 2022
The U.S. Postal Service celebrates Kwanzaa, the seven-day Pan-African holiday observed from December 26 through January 1, with a colorful stamp honoring African American culture, family, and community.
The artwork shows a young girl and boy standing beside a kinara, with all seven candles, known as mishumaa saba, illuminated. Their traditional-inspired robes and the surrounding mosaic pattern add a ceremonial character to the design. A light-blue circular element behind the children symbolizes wholeness and brings the composition together.
Kwanzaa is centered on seven principles: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith). The holiday combines elements of African harvest traditions with a modern celebration of African American heritage.
The stamp was designed by art director Antonio Alcal?? with original artwork by Erin Robinson. It is issued as a Forever stamp, remaining valid for the current First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
