Goodnight Moon Forever Stamps
The U.S. Postal Service celebrates one of the most cherished children's books of all time with a special pane of 16 Forever stamps honoring Goodnight Moon. Written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd, this bedtime classic has enchanted generations since its debut in 1947.
Each stamp features artwork from the book, showcasing iconic details such as the young bunny tucked in bed, the cow jumping over the Moon, mittens and socks, a toy house, the rocking chair, and more. Eight scenes appear twice, capturing the quiet magic of the great green room.
A Bedtime Tradition
With its soothing rhythm and gentle illustrations, Goodnight Moon invites readers to say goodnight to everything in sight. From kittens on the floor to a red balloon and the moon in the sky, the book's comforting ritual has become a nightly tradition for millions of families around the world.
Though it started with modest sales, the book's popularity grew steadily in the 1950s through word of mouth. It has now sold over 48 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling children's books of all time.
The stamp pane was designed by Derry Noyes using original illustrations by Clement Hurd. These stamps are issued as Forever stamps, always valid for the First-Class Mail one-ounce rate.
